Preserving Roots, Ensuring Growth, and Supporting Youth Programs

Building Our Legacy

The Porterville Fair Heritage Association was formed in 2012 with the goal of preserving the fairgrounds, ensuring growth, and providing funds needed for future projects and reducing the debt incurred with the new fairgrounds. The 12 member group hit the ground running, holding their first event in April 2013, “Hollywood Hits P-Town.” The annual Heritage Association fall fundraiser has been customized each year to fit the attending crowd. Dennis & Caroline Laux along with an amazing crew have served up an amazing meal each year since the 2nd annual event. The 2019 fundraiser made a drastic change taking the event under the barn for a Ranch Team Sorting, dinner, silent auction, and calcutta. The 2027 event will again include a top-notch steak dinner, silent auction and entertainment by Justin Lawrence and the Double Average Band, Friday, November 6, 2026. Mark your calendars now to make sure you don’t miss out on this fun evening under the stars with your family and friends while supporting the Heritage Associations fundraising efforts.

Mission & Impact

Porterville Fair Heritage Association Mission Statement

The mission of the Porterville Fair Heritage Association is to ensure growth and viability for youth related educational programs, exhibits, and future projects needed at the fairgrounds. The Heritage Association is dedicated to supporting the Porterville Fair so that it may continue to to be an exemplary multi-use community resource.

The Heritage Association joined forces with the Porterville Fair Livestock Sale Committee and sponsored the first “Heritage Animal” at the 2013 fair. The proceeds of this animal were used exclusively to reduce the debt of the new fairgrounds. Once the construction debt was retired, the Heritage Association began dedicating the net proceeds of the Heritage Animal at the Jr. Livestock Auction to the Livestock Department for improvements and maintenance of the department. Each year auction buyers have rallied and over approximately $325,000 has been raised!

Upon the success of the first “Heritage Animal,” the group decided to establish a $1,000 Scholarship for a high school senior 4-H or FFA member who is eligible to exhibit at the Porterville Fair. A market animal, including all expenses, is to be raised, exhibited, and sold at the Porterville Fair.

In addition to the Heritage Animal to be shown and auctioned, the Association will again be hosting the Heritage Lounge for the duration of the Fair. The Lounge will have a full bar, a private outside patio, as well as snacks. Appetizers will be served each evening, and a “Buyer’s Brunch” will be served from 8 to 10 AM on Saturday. Fair guests will be offered the option of purchasing value packages, which will include access to the Heritage Lounge for those age 21 or older.

The group meets monthly and is always working on ideas for future fundraising and improvements for the Porterville Fair.

Here’s how it works… There will be 125 -$100 Tickets and 125 – $50 Tickets sold. There is no limit to the number of tickets that can be purchased by an individual.

  • A computer program will randomly generate a numbered grid. This grid will be used to assign the ticket holder a square on the field.

The cows will be free to roam in the grid area. Cow #6’s deposit will mark the 6th place prize, Cow #5’s deposit will mark the 5th place prize, Cow #4’s deposit will mark the 4th place prize. Cow #3’s deposit will mark the 3rd place prize. Cow #2’s deposit will mark the 2nd place prize and Cow #1’s deposit will mark the 1st place prize.
  • In the event of the cow patty landing in multiple squares, the official judge will determine which square has the most poop. This square will be the winner.
  • If any of the cow(s) haven’t deposited a patty by 30 minutes following the first Cow released, the winner(s) will be determined by a drawing.

Youth Development & Scholarships

2026 Scholarship Recipient & Heritage Animal

The 2026 Heritage $1,000 scholarship goes to Brogan Galloway. Brogan is a senior at Porterville High School, where he is involved in water polo, swim, Panther Band, and Fabulous Studio Jazz Band. As a young child, Brogan’s love for animals came early, strongly influenced by his mother. As he grew up and became school-age, he participated in Burton 4-H for years as an elementary and middle school student, then transitioned to the Porterville FFA program in the years that followed, where he has shown hogs at the Porterville Fair for the past 9 years.

Brogan is also this year’s Junior Fair Board president and has served as a board member for the past 3 years. Brogan will be attending CalPoly SLO in the spring to pursue a degree in animal science. Brogan’s greatest role model and biggest supporter is his dad, Geoff. Despite challenging times following the loss of Brogan’s mother, his father has never stopped believing in him or his passion for agriculture and animals. Brogan would also like to thank the Porterville Heritage Association for giving him the opportunity to raise the 2026 heritage animal.

The 2026 Heritage Animal was sold for $16,818 at the Jr. Livestock Auction in May. The Heritage Association has dedicated 100% of the net proceeds to the needs and maintenance in the Livestock Department. Thank you to ALL GENEROUS DONORS!! You are truly appreciated.
